When I first got the phone call from Bill that he was planning a surprise proposal at the Greenbrier, I was so excited to capture this moment. I'd never met this couple, but now I hope that our paths cross again in the future. They were so kind and full of life.
When I first arrived at the Greenbrier, I planned to act as if I was just casually taking photos of random guests. I met a couple who'd flown down from NY. They asked me to take their photo. I explained the surprise proposal to them and they agreed to play along. By the time I'd finished with this couple, Bill and Margaret were standing there waiting, ready to ask me to take their photo.
We exchanged some small talk and I took a photo of the two with Margaret's phone, then a few with my camera. I told them to turn and face each other for a photo. This was it. This was Bill's cue to propose. He knelt down to his knee and Margaret was in shock.
It was beautiful. I had tears in my eyes and I was smiling from ear to ear. I was so happy for them and so happy for myself that I was privileged to be able to capture such a special moment.
After the proposal we proceeded to go around to different spots in the hotel for photos. Unfortunately the Cameo Ballroom was occupied by a private party, but we were still able to get some lovely photos.
